Child praying during Lent

Embrace the Journey of Lent: A Time for Renewal and Spiritual Growth

Praise be to the Lord! As we approach the sacred season of Lent, marked by Ash Wednesday on February 14th. We are called to embark on a profound journey of faith and self-reflection. This solemn period offers us a precious opportunity to unite ourselves with Christ as He walked the path to His ultimate sacrifice, leading us towards the joyous celebration of His resurrection at Easter.

Lent is not merely a time of solemnity and repentance, but also a season of transformation and renewal. It beckons us to contemplate our own shortcomings and seek forgiveness for our sins, while also inspiring us to aspire towards greater holiness and virtue. Through fasting, prayer, and almsgiving, we are invited to deepen our connection with God and grow closer to His divine purpose for our lives.

For our beloved students and teachers, Lent helps us as a spiritual compass guiding us toward a more intimate relationship with Christ.

St. Thomas More has planned the following activities to celebrate Lent as a school community:

  1. The Calendar with 40 crosses. This will help us show our love for Jesus by doing something for Him. We will color a cross each day to show a good deed such as saying an extra prayer, helping someone, doing something good that was hard for us to do, or doing what I was supposed to do without being told. We will bring our calendars to Mass on March 27, 2024.
  2. Every Wednesday during Lent, we ask that students and teachers bring a canned good to school, if able to. These food items represent our almsgiving. At the end of Lent, we will donate all that we collect to the St. Vincent de Paul chapter at Ss. Peter and Paul.
  3. Stations of the Cross: Rotating between Tuesdays and Fridays at 8:35 am, we will pray the Stations of the Cross together as a school in the cafeteria. We will begin on Friday, February 16th. On Fridays, we will pray the Stations in Spanish, and on Tuesdays, we will pray them in English.

On Tuesday of Holy Week, March 26th, we will do the Stations of the Cross in the Church at 8:35 am. All are welcome!
