Our St. Thomas More fourth- and fifth-graders recently visited the Saints of America Exhibit at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in De Pere. This experience brought classroom learning to life as students explored the path to sainthood and the stories of people whose faith shaped communities across the United States.
Students learned how many of these holy men and women came to America from other countries, bringing their faith and a commitment to serving others. Their stories helped students see how one person’s response to God’s call can make a lasting difference in many lives.
The visit also created meaningful connections to geography. Using world maps, students located the countries these individuals came from and traced their journeys to America. They explored where they lived and served, noticing that some states were home to more saints than others.
As students learn about the saints, they discover role models who show them how to live with courage, compassion, and faith. These lessons may also help them choose a saint as their patron when they prepare for Confirmation.
This visit was a beautiful opportunity to connect faith, history, and geography while reminding our students that each of us is called to holiness through the ways we love God and serve others.
